The Cux 87 "Krabbenkutter" {part 32}

     the port side net nearly completed, I began the starboard side by cementing the coil of rope in place on it's fife hook.  that was one of the last things I did yesterday.  all I had left to do on the port side, was to install the connectors.....that connect the buoy line to the net.  today, I did the starboard net assembly, in an effort to finish this ship, as per the goal that I had set for myself.

     All the preparations were ready......the buoy line was assembled and by now, this rope should be firmly cemented in place.  as promised, I took some pictures of the net as it is installed on to the net bar.  aside from a problematic chain link on the right hand side, the net went on very well.  after it was in place, I rigged the rope around the belaying pin, and attached it to the tail end of the net.

     With the net hanging, I made a few adjustments to open the mouth of the net and set it up for the buoy line.

     Using the chain links {I have to get more of them.......I love them!}, I attached the top lip of the net to the bar itself, and opened it up towards the bottom.  it was ready to accept the buoy line and run the anchor lines to the deck.  this is where I ran into the problem.  I had used the chain links to attach the net to the bar....the one on the right had just enough of a gap in it to allow the net to come out!  after messing around with it, and not being able to correct the problem, I replaced it with another, solving my problem straight away!  I refuse to be aggravated by something that I can simply replace!

       At this point, it was time to tie it down.  the aft line was simply arrested, so tying the fore line would be easier to do.  it's not necessary to make both nets identical........as long as they're close.  the fore line is tied off at the eye bolt I had installed on the deck.  after that was tied off, I made up the difference with the aft line.

       Once these lines were tied off, they were cemented........no chance was left for them to come loose.  they also gave stability to what I did next.....the connectors.  I did the port side first, then the starboard side, in order to give the starboard side time to dry.

     As you can see, I did the fore line during this little side step.......this one was easy, it was a knot, to begin with.  once the starboard side was connected, it was time to make a few small adjustments, before the last coil of rope was made......at the aft line.

     From here, clean up and touch up was all that was left to do.  Once this was done, I stepped back to take a look........at the first wooden ship kit I have ever built in it's entirety.  this is the last build log.  it is my hope that this build log will help someone who takes up the gauntlet of this fine ship......to be able to see through the Myst, and build this ship to the same satisfaction.  I loved it.......I loved every minute of it!  I thank everyone who had taken the time to read my build logs....I enjoyed doing them!      AHOY!!!!
